Baptism and Christian Initiation

The origin and foundation of Christian Baptism is Jesus. Before starting his public ministry, Jesus submitted himself to the baptism given by John the Baptist. The waters did not purify him; he cleansed the waters. Jesus did not need to be baptized because he was totally faithful to the will of his Father and free from sin. However, he wanted to show his solidarity with human beings in order to reconcile them to the Father. By commanding his disciples to baptize all nations, he established the means by which people would die to sin – Original and actual – and begin to live a new life with God.

In Baptism, the Holy Spirit moves us to answer Christ's call to holiness. In Baptism, we are asked to walk by the light of Christ and to trust in his wisdom. We are invited to submit our hearts to Christ with ever deeper love.

The policy and procedure to baptize at Christ Our Light is the following:

• Be a registered member of the parish or live within our boundaries (If neither pertain to your situation, a letter is needed from your pastor granting permission to baptize here)

• Have attended a baptism class within the last three years, either as a parent or godparent

• Fill out the "Baptismal Information Form" and return via email or bring to the pastoral office. This form is needed in order to schedule the baptism celebration. If more than one child is being baptized, a separate form must be filled out.

• Copy of child’s birth certificate

• All baptisms must be scheduled through the Parish Office

¿Por qué es necesario registrarme en la parroquia si asisto la Misa cada domingo?
 Es importante por lo siguiente:
 
 Primero: Somos miembros de la Iglesia por el don del Bautismo. El registro nos hace miembros de una parroquia en la cual podemos desarrollar nuestra fe con una comunidad.
 
Segundo: El propósito del registro es de asistir a la parroquia a servir a la comunidad más efectivamente.
